BECAUSE BOOK BANS Rant
Because it had to happen sometime. This is an unedited rant, but the stuff on the right, that’s all true.
Let’s be clear…book bans are unconstitutional and illegal. Many conservatives push their anti-woke mentality, but in reality, anti-woke is just code for racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia. These bans are here to try to minimize the work of anyone who isn’t white and male.
Now do I think that kids should have access to every form of media out there…no. Do I think that sometimes box-checking is hurting movies, yes. However, did 2023’s Barbie make more money when it came out than every other movie that
year…year. We nearly all the movies in the top 10 for 2023 contain ether a minority protagonist or a highly diverse cast, yes. In fact, 6 out of the top ten met that criteria. But what is happening is nothing more than
an attempt to silence what people don’t like so that the few which feel their power slipping can take it back. They are using these -ism’s as a way to gain back and take back power. If they weren’t why do you think that the rules
governing these book bans are so… vague. Why do you think that now many schools in places like Florida and Georgia, and Texas won’t talk about slavery and or when women gained the right to vote? Why do you think it happened
right after we go our first black president and almost ended up with our first women present? Why do you think its been pushed by most white men, many of which have been accused of rape, sexual misconduct, and who have a history
of calling blacks and women slow and stupid, and violent?
And why is it we are so diffused in our response? Book bans are antisemitic, they are Asianphobic, Hispanic-phobic, and Islomaphbic, they are even against the very teachings of Jesus Christ, which is why people like Joel Osteen and the Evangelical masses are starting to bash Jesus’ liberal teachings. We need to stand up for one another, an attack against one is an attack against ALL! Everyone wants the same thing, we just have different ways of getting it.
The United States should NEVER become a theocracy and should NEVER bow down to the word of people who are a minority even among their own race and gender as 90% of white males don’t even care for this bull. Never should the bible be used to uphold a law. I don’t care where your moral compass comes from, you walk into MY statehouse or into MY congress, you leave your Bible, your Torah your Quran at the door.
America Championed freedom of religion, separation of church and state, transparency in its history and its government. Why are we tolerating it today? Well, power. Its all this is about, power. Nothing more, nothing less.
Look, did I like it when Disney’s Owl House had one of its main characters in a lesbian relationship with another…no, mainly because I thought it was the definition of a toxic relationship (see practically any article on the Disney princess troupe), and Disney has been pushing an anti-relationship thing for years now. Do I like Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel…hell no, I think they pushed a feminist narrative over making her a compelling character similar to that of the comics.
This doesn’t mean I don’t support these concepts. Sailor Moon was my first anime, and I cannot even help but to think how much Arida and Yuna was based on those stories (nor a latter volume of How to Colonize a Planet, if I finish it) and even though the censorship of the 90’s you knew the lesbian innuendoes (no one was falling for Saturn and Neptune being cousins), and also, I love good, strong female protagonist. Captain Catherine Janeway, Ripley, Wonder Woman (the first one 1980 was bad), Viola Davis as Amanda Waller (NEVER RECAST THAT ROLL she’s like Kevin Conroy in this roll), Beauty and the Beast(1991), The Littler Mermaid(1989, and yes…she was better than many woman let on), Battle Angle Alita…all these were good feminist characters. This is a hyper short list.
But it doesn’t stop with entertainment. It never does. The US is not, nor has it ever been about where independence goes to die. No one deserves to be belittled because what they like or how they dress or what they like to do after hours. Because of America’s diversity, we won 2 world wars, the cold war, landed on the moon, and invented more medications and become the richest nation on the planet. Its not in spite of it, its because of it. Every Jew, Muslin, Black, White, Hispanic, Christian, Aethist…Man and Woman gave a bit of themselves to make this country great. Just ask yourselves…why is it our enemies always want to push the people who always suppose the anti-woke agenda?
Why?

MPAA or ESRB Equivalent Ratings
But in an effort to comply with book bans and honestly, something I was doing before then, I had decided to take the only rating system anyone has ever definitely created and use that to self-rate my books. The MPAA has one of
three (I do believe) nationally recognized rating systems, that everyone respects. All books will utilize this system along with a section that mentions content. Because that’s the sort of world we live in today. I also included
an ESRB equivalent because we have systems in place, there is a reason they don’t use them.
G
For Everyone. Little to no objection content. Think you average Winnie the Poo Cartoon
PG
Drama and action may unsuitable for some younger readers, but overall is pretty easily accessible to those 8 and up. Some language is allowed but it going to be very sparse. You can also expect characters may die in these. May also
deal with things like Racism, and Sexism, but usually in a way accessible to younger children. Think Marvel’s Avengers.
PG-13
Drama and action is probably the same as PG, however, some content may be consider unsuitable for those under 13. Maybe a nudity, maybe faces melting or description of dead bodies. Will also deal with much heavier concepts in a more impactful manner. And yes, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
NOTE: this is the beginning of stories written mainly for teens (think the last two Harry Potter Books)
R
Okay, almost anything goes here. Violence, drama, sexuality can all be dialed up to a more realistic or even blatantly excessive level. It usually only doesn’t have excessive sex in it.
E
Everyone: Minimum Cartoon Violence heavily washed down so-called trigger topics in a PBS, Liberty Kids sort of way.
E10+
Everyone 10 and older: May contain cartoon violence (Classic Loony Toons), the trigger topics are given more weight, and more historically accurate but are not fully explored.
T
Teen: Basically 13 or older. Violence and suggestive themes. Trigger topics are historically accurate and can be fully explored. Sexual content may be introduced but is more so suggested to described.
M
Mature: 17 and up. Basically Strong violence, sexual content, blood, gore are firmly described. Trigger topics are explored heavily and extreme examples are utilized fully.
