How to Colonize a Planet?

Easy…sort of…

Ever wanted to colonize a planet but not really sure where to start?  Wonder if you have what it takes to be at the helm of you own Mayflower or leading your own group of hunters across to new, unexplored planes, or just wanna get away to someplace further than Southwest Airlines can fly? Then I have the story for you, because the easy part about colonizing space is getting the cash and the tech.  Man made it to the moon in ten years when he finally decided to do so…he then got board with and spent the money on super sonic jet bombers.

This guide will show you what to do through the eyes and hard work of one Arthur Leyland, a young man from Baltimore, a genius investor, and a…bitter…just flat out bitter person. One cannot ask if life was kind to Leyland, but one thing is for sure, He fought hard to get to where he is.  He doesn’t see himself as Moses, but the idea of him stepping foot on the promise land seems to be fading as fast as his health.

So if you want to know how to make a colony, how to convenience thousands of roobs…I mean likely settlers to go on the long winded one way trip that will certainly end in their deaths on a cold lonely world, and what would poses some idiot to even sign up for a trip like that…well then this is the book for you!

Background

All the fun of going to Mars, with even more politics to worry about

Okay, I have a confession to make…I am a big Star Trek fan…and Stargate, and Star Wars…and Battlestar Galactical…the original one not the reboot; but this story is based on none of the above.
In fact, it was actually based on an assignment I received in a Middle School Social Studies class to create my own country with my own government. We needed to use a government (that wasn’t the US government) and explain the history, how it came about and make a map, along with describe it’s operation. It was something I couldn’t help but to constantly tweak over the years.
This might be sci-fi, but much of this story is based on research created by NASA, the United States government, and a number of universities. Some of the social aspects may be considered out dated (I wrote the original novelette for a contest back in 2008…I lost) but I left them in mainly because, I wanted Leyland to be a bit of a jerk. This is a man that was mildly jaded after all. Also, this is a planned series, and the evolution of culture has always appealed to me.
Ironically, the first draft was finished in 2012, 2014 time frame…I didn’t realize companies like SpaceX and Amazon would actually come to dominate space travel the way they do today (I was just guessing when I wrote some of that into the story).
But HTCAP, or my space story as I like to call it, is a sci-fi political drama set in the near future, a future that is become real…like it or not.

Age Group Recommended

In reality, this book is approachable by all, however, it is recommended for Teens to Adult due to language and some content. MPAA Equivalent Rating: PG-13

Genre

This is a Science Fiction, political drama, but also a bit on the so called speculative fiction side. Nearly all the science you see here, even the social and political science is real.  I didn’t have to make up anything…I just had to put it together.

DOES THIS TRIGGER YOU?

Then learn how to accept things you cannot control. HTCAP deals with a lot of issues, mainly: Political Divides, corruption, some Homophobia, drug use, the concept of a cult, sexism and a little bit but only a little racism.  There is also some abrasive language. Most of these aren’t excessive, think of them as the content one would find in Star Trek: Deep Space 9.
